I am in North Queensland at the moment staying at Thylogale Nature Refuge. This is a private Refuge and normally the only way to visit here is on a day tour with Australian Natural History Safari.

The property is owned by David and his wife Diane, they have asked us to stay for a while so today we are going on a half day tour with them. It should be a really good day as they have some of the most unusual Australian wildlife living in their rainforest. The number of bird species recorded here is impressive.

  1. That sounds great Steve, Here I am stuck in the middle of Queensland on a worksite, and your on a Nature reserve. I'm located only a few kilometers from Lawn Hill National park, The cockatiel's are out and about at the moment, but so are the snakes. I think the cold weather has caught them off guard, they are sunning themselves everywhere. I've seen several olive pythons and 2 scary looking browns over the last 2 weeks.

I have had the pleasure to meet David and Diane many times and have always wanted to do the Safari.

Let me know what it was like.

  2. Steve, I, too, have had the pleasure of going out on Safari with David Armbrust. Every moment of my day was memorable...from the walk in the rainforest at Thylogale to the most enchanting morning tea in the company of their free living wildlife...then onto Mt Lewis where we enjoyed a spectacular lunch in the peace & tranquility of some of the worlds oldest rainforest. You are quite correct in saying that David & Diane have some of the most unusual Australian wildlife living in their rainforest & the number of birds species we encountered was amazing.
Thylogale is DEFINITELY one of those rare places on earth where man and wildlife live together in a very respective and rather harmonious relationship. I admire David & Diane for their comittment to the conservation of Australian wildlife. There is no doubt in my mind that you would have had a superb day out with David. I'd really appreciate your feedback.
    Kind regards

  3. I really enjoyed my time with David @ Thylogale. He has excellent knowledge of the local area & his relationship with the wildlife on his property is unique. I was totally blown out by the abundance of wildlife we saw whilst there & seeing the musky rat kangaroos was absolutely the highlight of my day.
I highly recommend the Australian Natural History Safari....its definitely worth it if you're looking for an intimate day with nature.
Will be interested to hear what you thought of your day out with David.
