The way home

Well we are finally home, in fact we have been home for a few days now but I just not had the time to do anything with my Blog. We have been on the road for over 3 weeks plus I was the leader on last Saturday's walk with the club. But I will tell you more about that later, for now I will tell you about our trip home. But first I will tell you how cold it is here. It is VERY cold. If it is this cold now then what can we expect in July.
The photo on the right shows me at the Rex Lookout just north of Cairns.

The drive from Port Douglas to Cairns has to be one of the worlds classic drives. We stopped at a few of the beaches on the way home. Here is a photo of the beach at Buchans Point, yes that's me in the photo and out to sea you can see Double Island, the small Island beside it is called "The Scout Hat". It may not look like a Scout Hat to you but if you were looking at it from the top of Buchans Point you would see why it is so named.

On the road

Lots to report but just no time. We have left North Qld and are on our way home to cold Tamborine Mountain.

Will do another report when we are home with the heater on in our nice warm house.

A Day at Thylogale

Wow! What a day!

After a hearty breakfast provided by our hosts, we set off into the tropical rainforest for a walk amongst the wildlife. We were able to get up really close and personal with Pademelons, Musky Rat Kangaroos, Yellow Footed Scrub Fowl, Macleays Honeyeaters, Emerald Doves, Cat Birds and Brush Turkeys. An awesome experience!

This picture shows David and myself with a Pademelon and an Emerald Dove.

In the afternoon we walked up a section of road through the World Heritage listed rainforest of Mt Lewis where we came upon a small Taipan laying in the sun on the side of the road. We did not get up close and personal with this beautiful but deadly reptile.

I am in North Queensland at the moment staying at Thylogale Nature Refuge. This is a private Refuge and normally the only way to visit here is on a day tour with Australian Natural History Safari.

The property is owned by David and his wife Diane, they have asked us to stay for a while so today we are going on a half day tour with them. It should be a really good day as they have some of the most unusual Australian wildlife living in their rainforest. The number of bird species recorded here is impressive.

A Bushwalker's Diary

I am a very keen bushwalker who is fortunate enough to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, Tamborine Mountain in South East Queensland, Australia.

Not only is it a great spot to live, the bushwalking possibilities within an hour's drive from here are endless. I walk on a regular basis with a club, the Tamborine Mountain Bushwalkers, and I also do independent walks.

I am a Vietnam Veteran and each year I go on a trek with two great mates who are also Veterans. We were all in Three Troop, 1 Field Squadron together and so call ourselves the 'Three Troop Trekkers'. We have trekked in Nepal, walked the Thorsborne Trail on Hinchenbrook Island in North Queensland, sections of the Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory, as well as many walks in the Blue Mountains in New South Wales. Last year, instead of trekking, we paddled for seven days down the Murray River in kayaks from Tocumwal to Echuca.

The idea of this blog is to give a regular update on the walks I do, write ups of previous walks that I have done, plus I would like to hear from other walkers who share my passion.
